It helps to have the following ready for everyone in your household:
- Dates of birth
- Social Security Numbers
- Immigration documents (if applicable)
- Proof of income (pay stubs, W-2, 1099, or tax return)
- Current health insurance information, if any

After Applying
After you apply, the state of South Carolina will review your application and notify you of your eligibility.
While your application is under review: You may receive a letter asking you to provide additional documentation, such as proof of income or identity. Respond promptly to avoid delays in your application being processed.
If you’re approved:
- You'll receive a letter with your Medicaid ID or your managed care ID card in the mail.
- Most members will enroll in a Medicaid managed care plan.
- Coverage may be retroactive, meaning Medicaid can help cover recent medical bills.
Staying enrolled:
