Medicaid in Washington
There are two main types of Apple Health coverage:
- Apple Health: Covers adults ages 19–64, children, parents and caretakers, and pregnant individuals.
- Classic Medicaid: Covers adults who are 65 or older, blind, or living with a qualifying disability, and those who need long-term services and supports.
WA Medicaid Eligibility
- You live in Washington State
- You are a U.S. citizen, national, or a qualified immigrant (including refugees, asylees, and lawful permanent residents)
- Your household income is at or below the limit for the specific program that applies to you

Applying for Medicaid
For adults without children, parents/caretakers, children, and pregnant individuals:
- Online: Apply through Washington Healthplanfinder at wahealthplanfinder.org
- By phone: Call Washington Healthplanfinder Customer Support at 1-855-923-4633
- By mail: Complete and mail in an Application for Health Care Coverage
- In person: Local enrollment assisters can help you apply at no cost. Find local enrollment assistance at wahealthplanfinder.org
For people who are 65+, blind, or living with a disability:
- Online: Apply through Washington Connection at washingtonconnection.org
- By phone: Call 1-877-501-2233 to request an application be sent to you
- By mail: Complete and mail in an Application for Aged, Blind, Disabled/Long-Term Care Coverage
- In person:
- For Aged, Blind, or Disabled coverage: Visit your local DSHS Community Services Office
- For Long-Term Services and Supports: Visit your local DSHS Home and Community Services Office
For your application, you should have the following information handy for yourself and anyone in your household (even if they don’t need coverage):
- Dates of Birth
- Social Security Numbers
- Visa, green card, or immigration documents, if applicable
- Proof of household income (such as pay stubs, tax returns, benefit letters)
- Current insurance coverage, if any (policy numbers for any current health insurance plans covering members of your household)

After Applying
After you apply, Washington State will review your application and notify you of your eligibility.
While your application is under review: You may be asked to provide additional documentation such as proof of income or identity. Respond promptly to avoid delays.
If you’re approved:
- Coverage begins on the first day of the month in which you submitted your application.
- You'll receive a ProviderOne services card in the mail within about two weeks. Bring it to all medical appointments.
- You will be enrolled in an Apple Health managed care plan. You can choose your plan online, or you will be auto-enrolled.
Staying enrolled:
- Report any changes in income, household size, address, or family status as soon as possible.
- Your coverage must be renewed annually. Watch for renewal notices and respond promptly to avoid losing coverage.

If your income is too high for Medicaid (HUSKY), you may still qualify for free state health coverage through the Covered Connecticut program. If your income exceeds Covered Connecticut's limits, you may still be able to enroll in an affordable paid plain through Access Health CT.
How you apply depends on your age and situation:
- Adults under 65 typically apply through Access Health CT
- Seniors (65+) and people with disabilities usually apply through their local Department of Social Services (DSS)
