Supporting Families Through the SNAP Gap

What's happening with SNAP right now
A prolonged federal government shutdown has put November SNAP benefits at risk in multiple states.
Texas and Pennsylvania have warned that SNAP payments will not be issued if the shutdown continues and federal funds are released. Oregon notified roughly 757,000 households that they may not receive benefits after October 31. In Indiana and Colorado, officials have also stated that SNAP will be delayed or unavailable due to insufficient funds and lack of state authority. States like Virginia have already taken emergency steps to keep SNAP benefits flowing through November.
Why Fortuna is stepping in
SNAP ordinarily covers infant formula (an eligible food under USDA rules). When that lifeline is uncertain, infants are uniquely vulnerable. Our mission is to do what’s right for Medicaid beneficiaries and their families - so we’re offering one week of free baby formula to any household that uses Fortuna with a child age 1 or younger, regardless of enrollment or renewal status.
Public resources families can use today
- WIC (Women, Infants & Children): Check eligibility and find a local clinic; many Medicaid/SNAP/TANF households meet income criteria.
- Food banks (Feeding America): Locate nearby food distributions and mobile/drive-thru pantries.
- 211: Call 2-1-1 for local help; they can connect families to formula and baby supplies.
- FindHelp.org: Search for community programs offering diapers, formula, and baby goods.

If you’re a state agency, health plan, or health system interested in coordinating distribution or outreach, we’d love to collaborate - Fortuna's goal is simple: keep babies fed and families stable until regular benefits resume.
